Center for Hemispheric Policy
The Center for Hemispheric Policy at the University of Miami was established in April 2005 to examine the economic, political, social and foreign policy issues relating to Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada, as well as to U.S.-Latin American relations. It sponsors a variety of public and private programs for the Greater Miami business, banking and legal communities; academia; the media; the diplomatic community and non-governmental organizations. The Center’s programs, conferences and task forces feature experts and leaders from the private and public sectors in Western Hemisphere countries, as well as from other parts of the world. In addition, it invites influential leaders and policy makers from the region to participate in its Resident and Visiting Fellows programs. The Center organizes policy-oriented task forces, comprised of experts from the United States, Latin American and Caribbean countries, and elsewhere, to discuss and recommend policy options regarding critical issues affecting the region. It also publishes a wide range of policy-oriented papers and opinion pieces on current developments in the hemisphere. The Center travels abroad to present political and economic forums and university programs in the region’s capital cities, which includes recent events in São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, México, D.F. and Bogotá.
